The Seed Supply Manager is directly responsible for establishing production plans according to the quantity and quality requirements established by the release committees and managing the supply of seed through grower networks and vendors. In addition, the Seed Supply Manager assures the production feasibility and economics of new genetics, monitors all levels of production quality, and manages STS maintenance programs to meet desired standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES

•Develop and implement a global production strategy for a portfolio of varieties of the given crop
•Define crop allocation between areas and vendors as well as general business terms (price & quality) in order to ensure that i) seed production meets contracted quantities and quality standards (germination, hybridity, and disease parameters) ii) crops are contracted, planted, harvested and shipped in a timely manner, and iii) that crop estimates as well as delivery dates are updated in the system in a timely manner.
•Manage all elements of production for crop/varieties including prices, technical expertise, and performance standards.
•Establish and develop relationships with third party vendors and grower networks to meet production goals which includes the negotiation and coordination of contracts.
•Work with R&D to approve the acceptance of new lines.
•Manage the Stock Seeds (STS) Production and supply according to the Commercial Seed Production plan and forecast. Monitor all STS lots used and ensure that they meet company standards and goals.
•Investigate new regional alternatives by exploring countries, areas, vendors, methods, to ensure production supply all year round. Develop production trials through implementation of technical or managerial programs or initiatives that can be run across the different sites and growers/vendors as applicable.
•In relation with the Production Research Manager and the Technical Experts, define and implement all necessary technical experimentation aiming at improving seed productivity and quality.

Job requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

•BS in Agriculture or related field, or the equivalent.
•Minimum of five years of experience in vegetable seed production.
•Agronomist specialized in seed production with high level of technical knowledge.
•One year minimum of management experience.
•Ability to travel at least 25% of time to domestic and international locations.

COMPETENCIES

•Strategic Planning and Analysis – Ability to initiate and lead the planning and analysis of market data, through constant communication and coordination with research, development, and product management teams, in order to evaluate main targets. Ability to plan actions and analyze results.

•Technical Skills – Vegetable seed production knowledge. Technical expertise of key vegetable pest and management practices. Experience in crop management (Nutrition, Crop Protection, Harvest and Post Harvest). Previous experience in the region of responsibility is advantageous. Sales and customer management skills. Budgeting experience. Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong verbal and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills and integrity. Ability to work with people of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Bilingual (English – Spanish). Availability to travel at least 25% of the time. Very good interpersonal, organization, and communication skills to interact effectively with other personnel. Ability to manage production needs in different geographical areas.
•Interpersonal Skills – Possess strong leadership and communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain productive work relationships with various positions within the organization such as breeders, lab personnel, sales and development teams, agronomic production department, inventory management, quality control, plant managers, communications, product management, and technical data teams.

POSITION SUMMARY
Support breeding activities of the Fresh Market Tomato Program

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES

This position will assist with all breeding activities of the Fresh Market Tomato Breeding Program, with focus on:

  • Data entry and report of field trials
  • Seed harvest and processing for international shipments
  • Greenhouse activities and information management
  • Supervision of seasonal workers in the field

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Enrolled in College or BSc completed. Preferred fields: Horticulture, Agronomy, Crop Sciences, Plant Sciences, Biology
  • Ability to work in group and independently
  • Attention to detail
  • Pro-active, engaged and creative
  • Committed to work and punctuality
  • Excellent communication skills: clarity, concision and ability to quickly learn new processes
  • Valid CA driver’s license
