Full Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the accounting and finance department and is responsible for the accounting and financial information for Habitat-Spokane.
  • Makes journal and ledger entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Approves reconciliations of various checking, savings, and general ledger accounts. All accounts must be reconciled by 10th of the month.
  • Oversees all electronic accounts and payments.
  • Performs or oversees all construction job costing, A/P, A/R, and payroll processing.
  • Works with CFO and COO on preparing house budgets.
  • Performs or Oversees A/P & A/R best practices and reconciling GL Accounts.
  • Reviews and approves monthly, quarterly, and annual reports by due dates.
  • Grant compliance (SHOP, HTF, CDBG, FHLB…) for all grants including annual, semi-annual, and monthly reporting, audits by grantor and compiling data for all grant applications.
  • Gathers and/or submits information for all Habitat-Spokane Grants by due date.
  • Gathers and/or submits grant reimbursement requests to appropriate agencies in a timely manner.
  • Submits and maintains all Umpqua mortgage loans.
  • Oversees compliance of all banking requirements for Line of Credit.
  • Reconcile all outstanding loans and LOC.
  • Maintains all subordinate mortgage information and sends current mortgage balances to homeowners on an annual basis.
  • Reconciles and creates reports based on data from our mortgage loan servicer.
  • Produces all reports and makes all entries using computer applications necessary.
  • Oversees and/or prepares necessary payroll taxes and 990 informational returns by due dates.
  • Responsible for budgeting, cash flow analysis, mortgage leveraging and loans.
  • Cash flow analysis report submitted to CFO for review on weekly and as need basis.
  • Oversees Inventory and annual Audit.
  • Provides metrics for Development Team and Grant Reporting.
  • Housing advocacy in the community.
  • Attend all Habitat-Spokane events.
  • Promotes the mission of Habitat for Humanity-Spokane.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) in Accounting or Finance; and five years related experience.

Habitat for Humanity of North Carolina, Inc. is the Affiliate Support Organization for the local affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International in North Carolina. Its mission is to unite affiliates throughout the State in a coordinated effort to eliminate substandard housing through HHNC programs in statewide resource development, in best practice training, disaster response, and advocacy.

Job Summary for Executive Director Position:
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity of North Carolina and is a non-voting member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. The position reports directly to the Board Chair and has overall responsibility for the management of the affairs of the corporation, in accordance with the policies and objectives set by the Board of Directors.

As the senior leader of the Affiliate Support Organization, the Executive Director has the overall responsibility to fulfill Habitat for Humanity of North Carolina’s mission and purpose.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Communication
* Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee.
* Provide administrative support to the Board of Directors and each committee, including scheduling meetings, provision of meeting materials/agendas, and ensuring proper reporting.
* Hire, lead, coach, develop, and retain Habitat North Carolina staff.
* Evaluate programs to determine effectiveness and quality.
* Organize Camp Habitat or an Annual Meeting of affiliates.
* Curate communications to affiliates for importance, relevance, and originality and oversee content of website.

Governance
* Collaborate with the board to develop and implement a strategic plan.
* Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board and ensure open communication about the measurement of financial, programmatic, and other stated outcomes against stated milestones and goals.

Advocacy and Education
* Develop Statewide Advocacy Toolkit and revise before each legislative session or when necessary.
* Create Advocacy Agenda for each legislative session in league with affiliates, NC Housing Coalition and others.
* Partner with media, government leaders and the general public to provide education on issues of affordable housing and advocate for more housing in all its guises.
* Develop and implement the organization’s approach to advocacy. Work with NC Habitat affiliates to identify their advocacy priorities and develop methods to partner with them in implementing them.
* Identify and partner with other organizations with complementary advocacy priorities to raise the visibility and profile of the organization.
* Promote a positive public image for Habitat NC.
* Advance goal-oriented marketing initiatives.

Affiliate Support
* Provide technical assistance, programming, training, and networking opportunities that are informed by and responsive to affiliates.
* Establish and maintain a cooperative relationship with affiliates throughout the state.
* Facilitate communication between HFHI and affiliates to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, best practices and reporting requirements.
* Coordinate HFHI training initiatives with affiliates needs.
* Promote cross-affiliate communication and sharing of best practices.
* Establish and maintain an affiliate mentoring system.
* Oversee constituent services (day-to-day affiliate support, referral, orientation, etc.).

Fundraising and Resource Development
* Develop and implement broad fundraising, marketing, and branding strategies for all donations, investment capital, and service revenue.
* Expand and diversify revenue-generating and fundraising activities and sources to ensure sustainability of the organization’s current and future structure and programs.
* Increase support from private foundations, corporate foundations, individuals and government grants to support the mission of Habitat for Humanity throughout.
* North Carolina, including grant writing and administration and managing grantor relationships.
* Develop, implement and manage strategic partnerships benefiting affiliates and the ASO.

Operations/Human Resource Management
* Administer and supervise small, multi-functional staff. Foster a workplace that emphasizes collaboration, cooperation, and inclusion. Create and promote a positive work environment emphasizing communication among staff and engagement with the mission.
* Manage ASO’s finances, including the development of an annual budget and long and short-range financial plans—while ensuring that strong financial controls are in place.
* Nurture positive relations with affiliates statewide, with HFHI, and with all other key partners and ensure clear and effective communications with all.
* Manage and support Board and Board committee relations, ensuring that meetings and notices are timely and effective.
* Provide input to assist the board of directors with recruiting and retaining board members.
* Monitor information from HFHI to determine the effects on ASO and affiliates. Promote positive communications between affiliates and HFHI.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Exceptional leadership, management, supervision and motivational skills and personal characteristics.
* Experienced in managing successful strategic initiatives, partnerships and collaborations in public, non-profit and/or for-profit sectors.
* Leadership, facilitation, collaboration, partnership-building and interpersonal communication skills.
* Significant experience in fundraising and resource development.
* Proven expertise in financial management, budgeting, and tracking results to projections with the ability to understand and analyze the implications of financial statements and projections.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking together with presentation, marketing, public relations capabilities.

* Demonstrated success as an advocate and a high degree of comfort in mobilizing others in advocacy efforts.
* Grant writing, grant management and business development skills.
* Knowledge of urban and rural affordable housing challenges and opportunities, nonprofit housing legal and regulatory environment, and knowledge and experience in residential real estate development, construction and finance, as specifically related to affordable housing.
* Understanding of the housing development and home construction processes.
